I have always been creative; from a young age, I could be found in my dad's shed nailing pieces of wood together or sitting at the sewing machine fashioning curious clothes for my toys. I have an everlasting affection for the natural world. Being outside, absorbing the scents and atmosphere of the great outdoors, is where I am happiest.
For over a decade, I served my country, flying worldwide with the Royal Air Force. When I eventually came down to earth, I became a Police Officer in Suffolk. For nearly a quarter of a century, I dedicated my time to resolve the many complex issues facing the public. I am retired, so I now have a lot more time to finally pursue my deep-rooted passion for art as I find myself in the fortunate position to explore this lasting curiosity.
Three years ago, I found myself signing up for the Foundation Art and Design Diploma at West Suffolk College. This course was full of discovery for me; I was surrounded with endless inspiration, enabling me to explore the wide variety of artistic practices available, which I embraced with a passion. I left the course with a distinction which opened the door to study art at degree level. The degree was an excellent opportunity for me to elevate my art practices and explore the breadth of artistic possibilities that will reflect my natural world view. I am nearing the end of my degree course, which means another adventure is on the horizon.
Here are a few images of my work and processes. I have experimented with clay dug from the ground, eco prints from my surrounding flora and Macro lens photography. There are many more projects to be explored.
